49.0 Exploring Voice Through Storytelling with Hansley Cazeau

As a continuation of our month of storytelling strategies for the classroom, we are joined by educator Hansley Cazeau. Hansley is an English Language Fellow to Montenegro through the U.S. State Department English Language Programs. He shares storytelling tips for EL teachers, emphasizing the importance of cadence of speech, inflection of voice, as well as clear pronunciation and intonation. He shares several great resources for students to record their voices, while telling stories, for teacher input, feedback, and assessment.

Hansley Cazeau is an American educator and culture enthusiast. His ESL career began in 2007, teaching in private and public schools in Japan. Deciding he wanted to go back to school and study, he returned to the U.S. in 2010 where he obtained a Master’s in Multilingual Education with a specification in TESOL. His most notable accomplishments as an English Language professional include presenting at State conferences, training teachers in countries such as the Philippines and the United States,  and more recently being selected as English Language Fellow with Georgetown University and the U.S. State Department.

Outside of teaching, Hansley enjoys exploring nature, visiting coffee shops, and enjoying international cuisines. Culture and languages are also a passion of his. At the moment he speaks 3 languages English, Haitian Creole, and Japanese, and looking forward to adding more to the list.
