Prof. Patrick T. Dougherty, Ed.D., is Dean of Academics, Professor of Literature and History, and a member of the Faculty of International Liberal Arts at Akita International University. He has been an educator for over 35 years, and has taught at the secondary, undergraduate, and graduate levels in the United States, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, and Japan. He was a founding member of Teachers Helping Teachers (THT) and has been an officer of THT, holding various posts including president and coordinator, since its inception in 2005. THT's mission of enhancing teacher pedagogical development throughout the Asia Pacific region has also been a great inspriation for Prof. Dougherty's work and research.

On a personal note, Prof. Dougherty has been married for 33 years and is the proud father of two adult daughters. He and his wife split their time between Akita International University in the north of the main island of Japan and his permanent home near Tokyo. When given the opportunity, he and his wife travel, hike, and enjoy the ocean.
