ESL/AESL Instructor

I began teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages in Finland, where I lived for 25 years. Learning Finnish at the age of 26 was extremely difficult, but my efforts were rewarded when I qualified as an Official Translator of Finnish into English after six years of hard work. I had also studied Spanish for many years in public school and enjoyed it very much. Both language learning experiences have given me insights into the language learning process as well as respect and compassion for my ESL students. I have taught ESL in higher education both in the US (IVC, UCI, Texas A&M University, University of Delaware, Kapiolani Community College) and abroad (Finland, Houston Community College /Qatar and for two years as an English Language Fellow at ENS, Mohammed V University in Rabat, Morocco). I have taught beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels and discrete skills: reading, writing, speaking, listening, as well as grammar and vocabulary. It is a pleasure and a privilege to work with motivated, intelligent people from around the world, who wish to improve their communication skills and help them reach their goals. I have a B.A. in International Studies from the University of the Pacific, and a Masters in Teaching English as a Second Language from Hawaii Pacific University.
