S2 11 Using Drama and Role Play to Enhance Reading with Natasha Agrawal

Natasha Agrawal gained her own confidence in reading and speaking through drama, as a child in India. As a teacher of English language learners (ELLs), she uses drama to integrate English skills. Natasha shares great tips to easily integrate role-play and drama in your classroom to enhance reading with your English language learners. She includes tips such as creating scripts with student input, changing roles, and performing in class.  

Increase motivation in your classroom by assigning roles and transforming your classroom into a theater. Learn easy tips to change any story into a script. Teach students to write dialogue and read with expression. Encourage critical thinking by asking a character’s thoughts and feelings. Discuss point of view by having one character present their perspective in the story. This activity enhances reading, speaking, and listening skills.
